Wormwood - D.H. Nevins

Not all books are full of sex and erotic pleasures. Many of the very best books have personalities, and anger, and some destruction, with a touch of Armageddon.

Wormwood by D.H. Nevins is an amazing first in a series. The story unfolds in what you believe is a dream but soon discover is not a dream at all.

My favorite parts of the story come when Kali, the female main character is not afraid to be angry and hate what is happening to the world around her. She is a hero in all sense of the word.

The half-angel who is in charge of the destruction of Earth and all humans is someone who seems torn between what he must do and what he wants to do. I mean, who wants to destroy a planet?

As the book unfolds, we learn what Wormwood signifies as well as the way relationships are built or destroyed.

I felt every bit of the anger that Kali felt, and felt every tear that Tiamat does not shed. There are other characters in the story. The humans hate, or they fear, or they trust. We are never certain where any of them stand, not even Tiamat. There are more half-angels, as well. They are much the same as their human counterparts.

The only character in Wormwood who seems to be at face-value is Kali. She is a wonderful person with a big heart who continually tries, with all her might, to ensure the security and longevity of the human race.

Of course, things can't work out the way we want them to, and Kali finds this out, as well. Tiamat has not been as forthright as he should be. It takes the Devil, yep--that one--to tell her the truth.

But even the Devil doesn't know it all and we begin to see backgrounds unfold, futures untold, and everything waiting for the second book.

D.H. Nevins is an amazing storyteller who has given us a great story about the destruction of Earth that isn't about the destruction, but what comes next. I cannot wait for the next book in the series. It's going to be amazing.
